Shark Week is an annual, week-long TV programming block featuring shark-based shows on the Discovery Channel. It was originally devoted to conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks. However, over the years it became successful due to more entertaining and over the top shows. Shark Week has been hosted by notable personalities such as Shaquille O’Neal, Rob Riggle, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa.

Visit a Local Aquarium

Take a trip to your local aquarium to see sharks up close. Many aquariums have shark exhibits where kids can learn about these incredible aquatic animals including their habitats and behavior. Some aquariums offer guests the opportunity to touch or feed sharks, which can be a super cool experience for kids.

If you live in Tampa Bay or plan to visit, the Florida Aquarium offers an awesome experience called the SeaTREK. It’s a guided underwater walking tour that takes place in the Heart of the Sea habitat. You will have the opportunity to explore coral caves amongst the hundreds of fish, bonnethead sharks and other aquatic animals. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium offers a shark care experience. You will assist CMA’s animal care specialists in guiding and feeding Thelma, the resident shark.
