Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, has been a paid federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. This holiday represents an important part of American History. On July 4, 1776, delegates from 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence which was drafted by Thomas Jefferson. They declared Americans were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain under the ruling of King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states.
