Easy Craft Stick Juneteenth Flag That Kids Will Love

This craft stick Juneteenth flag is perfect for celebrating Freedom Day with kids. You only need a few supplies for this activity. I included a free template for the burst and star is included for this craft. While crafting, have a discussion about the reason we celebrate Juneteenth and the symbolism of the flag. I can’t guarantee this art project will be mess-free, but it will be a lot of fun to make at home, summer camp or any Juneteenth celebration. Let’s get started!

Supplies for Craft Stick Juneteenth Flag

  • Clear tacky glue
  • Jumbo craft sticks (6 in, 8 in & 10 in) or recycled popsicle sticks
  • Paint (red & blue)
  • Old newspaper or plastic tray
  • Juneteenth flag template
  • Paintbrushes
  • White cardstock
  • Paper plate or paint palette
  • Hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Cricut (optional)
  • Pencil

  1. Start by gathering all your supplies for this craft stick Juneteenth flag for kids.
  2. Next, use a hot glue gun to attach five 8-in craft sticks to a 10-in craft stick to create your flag. You can also use recycled popsicle sticks. The size doesn’t matter. Make sure an adult is helping with this step.
  3. Use a pencil to draw an arch in the middle of the flag.
  4. Paint the above the arch blue and below the arch red. Set it aside to allow the paint to dry.
  5. Download, print and cut the star template. I provided 3 different sizes for your flag.
  6. Finally, use glue to apply the burst to the middle of the flag. Then glue the star inside of the burst. You are now ready to show off your craft stick Juneteenth flag.
