Tips & Troubleshooting

Printing Issues:

Ensure your printer settings are set to “Fit to Page” to avoid cropping the template.

If the template prints out too small or too large, check your printer’s scaling settings and adjust them to 100%.

Gluing Tips:

Use a glue stick for less mess and quicker drying time.

If the pieces don’t stick well, try a stronger adhesive like craft glue. For younger children, double-sided tape can be easier to handle.

Coloring Tips:

If markers bleed through the paper, try using colored pencils or crayons instead. Place a piece of scrap paper underneath to protect surfaces. It’s easier for kids to color first and then cut out the pieces, if they color outside of the lines there will be less mess on your table afterwards.

Cutting Tips:

Older kids should be able to manage completely on their own while younger kids should use safety scissors with adult supervision.

Benefits of This Turtle Craft For Kids

Boosts Creativity:

Let’s face it, kids love getting creative! Coloring in the turtle and decorating it with their own unique touches and craft supplies helps them express their creativity and imagination.

Develops Fine Motor Skills:

Cutting out the template pieces and gluing them onto the paper bag requires young children to use precision and coordination. This craft helps kids improve their fine motor skills, which are essential for writing and other tasks, while kids have so much fun.

Encourages Imaginative Play:

Once the puppet is done, the fun doesn’t stop! Kids can use their turtle puppet for imaginative play, creating stories, and puppet shows. It’s a great way for them to explore different scenarios and characters.

Encourages Patience and Focus:

Crafting takes time and patience. As kids work through the steps, they learn to focus on the task at hand and develop patience as they wait for glue to dry or carefully color within the lines.

Educational Value:

This is the perfect craft to use as an opportunity to teach kids about turtles, their habitats, and other interesting facts. It’s a fun way to combine crafting with learning.

Final Thoughts

This easy craft is a fun activity that can lead to pretend puppet play or a puppet show! It’s the perfect way to turn your kids favorite character turtles from their books and shows into real hands-on fun.

With simple craft supples you already have at home, printable activities like this are the best crafts for curious kids! They provide hours of entertainment and allow young imaginations to fly free.

Shark Week is an annual, week-long TV programming block featuring shark-based shows on the Discovery Channel. It was originally devoted to conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks. However, over the years it became successful due to more entertaining and over the top shows. Shark Week has been hosted by notable personalities such as Shaquille O’Neal, Rob Riggle, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa.

HOW TO CELEBRATE SHARK WEEK WITH YOUR KIDS

Watch Shark Week Shows

Of course, you can’t celebrate Shark Week without watching all the great shows on the Discovery Channel. Make sure you select age-appropriate content for your kids.

Visit a Local Aquarium

Take a trip to your local aquarium to see sharks up close. Many aquariums have shark exhibits where kids can learn about these incredible aquatic animals including their habitats and behavior. Some aquariums offer guests the opportunity to touch or feed sharks, which can be a super cool experience for kids.

If you live in Tampa Bay or plan to visit, the Florida Aquarium offers an awesome experience called the SeaTREK. It’s a guided underwater walking tour that takes place in the Heart of the Sea habitat. You will have the opportunity to explore coral caves amongst the hundreds of fish, bonnethead sharks and other aquatic animals. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium offers a shark care experience. You will assist CMA’s animal care specialists in guiding and feeding Thelma, the resident shark.

Supplies for Shark Scrape Painting

  • Recycled cardboard (cut into a square)
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • Shark template
  • Cricut (optional)

Directions

  1. First, download, print then cut out the free shark template. See supplies to get the template. If you have a cutting machine like a Cricut, search for a shark image then cut.
  2. Next, add a few drops of different color paint on white cardstock.
  3. Take the cardboard square and scrape the paint across the white cardstock. Start at the top and move downward. Now move in a different direction. Try not to scrape the paper more than 3 or 4 times. Set aside to dry.

Are you a fan of shark week? We love watching the different shows on the Discovery Channel and learning about different sharks. I wanted to create a fun activity that both of my kids would enjoy. This bubble foam ocean and shark sensory play is easy to set up and only requires a few items. It’s a fun way for young children to explore different senses while learning about sharks. They can enjoy this activity indoors or outside if the weather is nice. This sensory activity can get a little messy, but the kids will have lots of fun.

Supplies for Shark Sensory Play

  • Tear-free bubble bath for kids
  • Spoon
  • Food coloring (different shades of blue)
  • Bowl
  • Shark toys (option 1 & option 2)
  • Water
  • Electric hand blender
  • Tray or sensory bin
  • Essential oils (ocean/beach scents)

How to Set Up Your Sensory Play

To make the bubble foam, add 1 cup of water to a bowl. Then add 1/2 cup of tear-free bubble bath into the bowl. If you want to color your ocean foam, add a few drops of food coloring into the bowl. Mix the ingredients by using an electric hand blender until you start to get stiff peaks. Use a large spoon to scoop it out into a tray or sensory bin. We wanted to create different colors for our ocean, so we made 2 batches of the foam with different shades of blue food coloring. You can also add beach/ocean scent essential oil to your bubble foam.

Now that you are finished making your bubble foam ocean, time to add the toy sharks. You can also add scoop toys to enhance the sensory experience.

NoSpace, recently renamed NoPlace, is a new social media platform inspired by the nostalgic MySpace era. It has top Apple Store app this week.

It aims to provide a simpler, more authentic social media experience, focusing on genuine connections and self-expression rather than algorithms and advertisements.

The app has generated significant buzz, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials, with over 500,000 people on its waitlist.

The app is currently available for iPhone users. Esentially it is like a combination of Twitter & Myspace.

Key Features of NoPlace

  • Top Friends: Similar to MySpace’s “Top 8” feature, users can highlight their closest friends.

Is NoPlace safe for below 12 years old?

While NoSpace is designed to foster genuine connections and creativity, there are several considerations for parents regarding its safety for younger users:

Pros

  • Focus on Authenticity: The app encourages genuine interactions and self-expression, which can be positive for social development.
  • No Algorithms: The absence of algorithm-driven content can reduce exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate material.

Cons

  • Potential for Inappropriate Content: Like any social media platform, there is a risk of exposure to inappropriate content and cyberbullying.
  • Privacy Concerns: Users are required to provide personal information such as phone numbers and emails to join the waitlist, which raises privacy concerns.
  • Find new friends : Adding new friends can expose users to strangers who may not have good intentions, increasing the risk of encountering inappropriate behavior or online predators.
  • Lack of Parental Controls: There is no mention of robust parental control features, making it harder for parents to monitor their child’s activity on the app
  • Exclusion : NoPlace includes a feature that allows users to showcase their top 8 friends on their profile. While this feature aims to highlight close friendships, it can potentially lead to feelings of exclusion or upset among friends who are not selected for the top 8.

With any social media app we recommend your child to wait till at least they are 16 years to use the app. There is always the risk of coming across inappropriate content.

Also, since this is a new app, we will constantly monitor the app for updates and changes.
